We San Francisco ladies are on the go and want to keep up with the latest technology in skin treatments to look and feel our absolute best. Here are some innovative, cutting edge treatments to keep you in the know of what's available in the spa industry to help you maintain that mah-velous glow.
Spa Solé
Cellulite is a well-known adversary amongst the female persuasion. United, we will hop on the bandwagon of any new exercise technique, food supplement or clinical service that will aid us in the struggle to rid ourselves of this arch nemesis. Spa Solé, at 2500 Clay St., has one such miraculous treatment available named The Dermasonic Method.
The treatment starts off in a private Far Infrared Sauna which helps purify fat cells and burn calories (up to 500 per session). It is also known to strengthen your cardiovascular system and detoxify your system of alcohol, nicotine, sodium and cholesterol. During my 30 minute session there was soft music piping in while I sipped away on a hot cup of detoxifying tea. It felt like a mini getaway.
The next step in waste removal was “The Dermasonic Method. Caroline, who is the proprietor and body worker of Spa Sole, had a lovely southern demeanor and escorted me into the softly lit treatment room. Caroline worked her magic with the ultrasonic machine across my trouble areas where most women accumulate cellulite. The ultra-sound waves penetrate beneath the skin stimulating blood flow, liquefying fat deposits, and promoting lymphatic drainage. In the final stage of the process, a specialized vibratory and suction technique was used over the same areas. At the end of the session my previously-tight jeans slipped over my hips much more easily!
Ultimate Sessions start out at $155.00, but Caroline recommends at least 6 ultimate treatments priced at $870.00 for optimal results.
If you mention this article from S.F. Social, you can receive the Pre-Wedding Package at a special price of $250.00, which includes a Far Infrared Sauna, Body Wrap and Dermasonic session. Good times! Call 415-929-6886 or visit their website at www.spasole.com to book a package.
SKN Medical Spa
SKN Medical Spa has many sophisticated and results-oriented treatments on their menu. Walking into the uber- posh ambience, located at 1825 Union Street in the Marina, I felt I was in very capable hands. Manager and product specialist Katie Hanstad thoroughly educated me on the dermatological skincare offered, and how Dr. Robert Colvin's office operates.
Dr. Colvin is Board Certified in emergency medicine and has also received comprehensive training in all of the cosmetic procedures that are offered in his office. His evaluation of my skin concerns and history was thorough. He calmly assured me he doesn't perform any procedure on a client that he would not perform on his own family. All of his procedures are FDA approved and medically safe. Katie also informed me Dr. Colvin does all of his consultations solely, which sets SKN Medical Spa apart from other medical spas in the area.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a treatment that is performed with a topical photosensitizing solution named Levulan (ALA) activated with the correct wavelength of light. Dr. Colvin believes this therapy is becoming more popular lately because it is a non-invasive alternative to surgery.
The ALA with the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) removes sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, rosacea, and improves overall clarity. There is more downtime for the ALA with IPL as it is a more assertive treatment. Dr. Colvin confessed that San Francisco gals tend to go for the more assertive route and address many skin issues altogether because of our busy schedules.
After discussing my options with Dr. Colvin, we decided that the ALA with Blu-Light Therapy would be the best option to clear up my moderate level of acne. ALA in combination with Blu-Light clears up acne. After my first treatment of the ALA and Blu-Light treatment, my face felt super clean and taught. I was also a tad red, which lasted for another day. My follow up treatment with the Blu-Light alone, significantly cleared up most of the acne I had. By the next morning my blemishes were healing up and most of the redness was gone. 3 treatments are best for mild to moderate acne, while 5 treatments are suggested for more severe acne.
Dr. Colvin had given me some samples of their clinical line called ‘Bio-Medic’ by La Roche-Posay. I love this line and recommend it to all of my clients who have acne problems! The combination of the skincare for acne and the ALA with Blu-Light really worked well for me.
Katie told me of a story of a woman in her mid 30’s who had battled acne since her teens. After 2 treatments with ALA and the Blu-light combined, she looked fabulous. Dr. Colvin and Katie both agree that this is the most gratifying part of the job. When they both see and hear the results, along with their customers confidence in their appearance, it gives them a true sense of satisfaction and a job well done.
